*Human Resources Certification Institute
The Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) is the leading independent and internationally recognized certifying body for HR professionals and works in collaboration with SHRM. HRCI offers three certifications for HR professionals:
* PHR® (Professional in Human Resources)
* SPHR® (Senior Professional in Human Resources)
* GPHRTM (Global Professional in Human Resources)
Certification is a voluntary action by a professional group to establish a system to grant recognition to professionals who have met a stated level of training and work experience. Certified individuals are usually issued a certificate attesting that they have met the standards of the credentialing organization and are entitled to make the public aware of their credentialed status, usually through the use of initials (i.e., PHR or SPHR) after their names.
*The SHRM Foundation
The SHRM Foundation was founded in 1966 as a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the HR profession, including academics, practitioners and representatives from SHRM. The Foundation funds research, publications and education to advance the HR profession and enhance the effectiveness of HR professionals. To support its important work, the SHRM Foundation conducts an annual fundraising campaign. All contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible.
The Foundation promotes research, innovation and the use of research-based knowledge. With an annual budget of approximately $1 million, it funds projects that have a direct and practical impact in advancing the HR profession. The Foundation puts out RFP's to the research community and then evaluates the research proposals it receives. Using its "LIVE" criteria: L-Leverage, I-Impact, V-Visibility, E-Enhances the profession, the Foundation selects projects to fund.
* SHRM State Councils

Volunteering on the State Council is a great way to learn more about SHRM and the profession in general.
