SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THIS PROGRAM: While the survey data is specific to “small-to-medium size technology companies,” the information about survey collection methodology, benchmarking, compiling the results and key findings apply generally to all industries and should therefore be of interest to HR professionals generally. Furthermore, these results provide insight to a particular industry segment across a broad geography – so it will be helpful for HR professional to see what other companies’ total compensation, benefits and human capital practices data and offerings are.

Topic:
HR Leadership: Discover Your Authentic Leadership Style in the context of HRCS Competencies for HR Professionals (re-scheduled from February)
Speaker:
Michelle Braden
Meeting Date & Time:
5/11/10 | 11:30 am -- 1 pm
Location:
Cavalier Inn @ 105 Emmett Street http://www.cavalierinn.com/directions/index.php
Description:
This presentation is designed to help HR professionals develop an awareness of how an authentic leadership style can help them meet the challenges of their evolving HR role. At the same time, they will be able to apply this knowledge to the task of attracting and developing leadership capability in their respective organizations.

The role of the HR professional is evolving and competencies for high performing HR professionals have changed to align with needs of their constituencies.

In 2007, the Human Resource Competency Study (HRCS), a global HR competency study conducted under the auspices of the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and The RBL Group in Salt Lake City, with regional partners including the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in North America and other institutions in Latin America, Europe, China and Australia, identified six core competencies that high-performing HR professionals embody. These supersede the five competencies outlined in the 2002 HRCS—the last study published—reflecting the continuing evolution of the HR profession. Those competencies are described broadly as: Credible Activist, Cultural Steward, Talent Manager/Organizational Designer, Strategy Architect, Business Ally, Operational Executor
(more detail can be found at http://www.shrm.org/Publications/hrmagazine/EditorialContent/Pages/0607grossman.aspx).

At the same time, a top workplace trend important to the HR function is “building leadership capability through attracting, growing and leveraging organization talent…vitally important for organizations to differentiate and thrive in the next decade.”

This presentation is designed to help HR professionals develop an awareness of how an authentic leadership style can help them meet the challenges of their evolving HR role. At the same time, they will be able to apply this knowledge to the task of attracting and developing leadership capability in their respective organizations.

As a result of the presentation, attendees will be able to:

• recognize the value of discovering their authentic leadership style – for themselves and the leaders they develop and hire

• compare their own strengths and competencies in the context of the HR competencies as revised by the 2007 Human Resource Competency Study (HRCS): Credible Activist, Cultural Steward, Talent Manager/Organizational Designer, Strategy Architect, Business Ally, Operational Executor

•discuss and assess results of an Authentic Leadership Style Survey to be taken

•develop a personal development plan based on survey results
